Meet Drs. Perry and Susan Lee

They met at The University of Alabama Birmingham School of Optometry.

Dr. Perry Lee from Birmingham, Alabama and Dr. Susan Lee from Cumming, Georgia have never desired to be in a large, bustling city. After visiting Reynolds Lake Oconee and the surrounding area in 1996, they fell in love with it and its potential. They decided to make this their home and have never looked back. “The community is so close knit. It reminds me very much of my upbringing,” Dr. Susan says of calling Georgia’s Lake Country home. “We are thrilled that we’ve chosen to establish not only our family but also our practice, Lake Oconee Eye Care, here. We’ve had the unique opportunity to serve this special community and its residents for the past 18 years.”

Their hearts and souls belong to their two beautiful, talented and strong daughter’s Olivia and Avery. They enjoy spending time as a family out on the lake boating, and taking Olivia and Avery tubing or wakeboarding. The Lees attend Lakeside Church where Perry is a leader in the youth ministry and Susan serves in the nursery.

Serving The Community

As true philanthropists, Perry and Susan strongly believe in making a difference in the community in which they live and serve. “We feel it is important to support all of the schools in our community, not just the one our children attend. Your education is the one thing that a person cannot take away from you,” says Perry.

The Lees also support and are involved with local outreach programs, such as Atlas Ministries, The Pete Nance Boys & Girls Club, Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy, Young Life, Second Harvest, Reynolds Veterans Association, Oconee Performing Arts Society, Habitat for Humanity, and other impactful organizations. Dr. Perry proudly serves on the St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation Board, and is the campaign chair for Steve Kilgore’s race for the Board of Education. In the past, Dr. Perry also chaired the campaign for Mike Lynch for the Board of Education.

The Lees And The Importance Of Annual Eye Exams

The most rewarding part of their work as optometrists is passionately educating their patients (or as they like to call them – family) about the importance of an annual eye exam. Dr. Susan has personally been on the other side of the exam table and understands first hand how an annual eye exam can aid in the detection of diabetes, macular degeneration, sleep apnea, hypertensive retinopathy, and SO much more. It’s part of the reason why she connects so well with patients and why she is so dedicated to the care she provides during their eye exams day in and day out.

The Goal of Oconee Eye Care

Together, this vibrant duo is committed to helping make Lake Oconee and the surrounding area the best community it can be. “Our goal is to help people experience amazing vision for life and through serving others, we believe God will bless us and the community we love,” Dr. Perry humbly stated.
